Public transportation is also available and operated from the Senior Center.
Dial-A-Ride Program
The Dial-A-Ride program provides accessible, affordable, and convenient public transportation to ALL Rabun County residents. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.(except weekends and holidays) on a demand-response system. Rabun County Dial-A-Ride is accessible for persons with disabilities.
Transportation requests should be made at least 24 to 48 hours in advance when possible. Rides are completed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Trips requested through message or voice mail cannot be bound unless confirmation is made with the dispatcher. Round trip rides in Rabun County are $6.00. Round Trip rides to Habersham & Stephens County are $15.00. Rides to Gainesville, GA, are $42.00. The fee for a ride is due when a passenger is first picked up (checks or cash only). Call 706-782-3853 to schedule a ride to the grocery store, doctor’s appointment, beauty shop, etc. Please attempt to have the correct fare when paying for your ride. Drivers cannot extend credit, charges, or allow free rides.
Passenger Policies
All Rabun Transit vans are accessible for persons with disabilities. Riders may be accompanied by an attendant if needed. Please let us know in advance of any assistance you may need in boarding or disembarking from the van. Riders using respirators or portable oxygen are permitted on the vans. Service animals accompanying individuals with disabilities are permitted. Children under 16 years of age must have an accompanying adult. Please be prompt and ready to meet your van.
Rabun Transit is a curb-to-curb service. Passengers are responsible for their personal items. Eating and drinking are not permitted on the vans. Music may be played only if headphones are utilized, or volume is set so as not to disturb other passengers. Please do not talk to the operator while the vehicle is in motion. Safety is our top priority, and your operator's full attention needs to be on driving. Operators are not allowed to transport loads (including loads of metal, heavy items, containers for flammable contents, anything that is deemed an unsafe load) that cannot be secured properly and/or cause a safety hazard. Rabun Transit reserves the right to refuse rides for this purpose.
Rider are required to have a "code of conduct" when riding Rabun Transit. Rabun Transit has taken measures to make sure your travel with us is as safe and secure as possible. Passengers also have a responsibility to ensure that a safe trip is possible. Any rider violating our code of conduct or causing a disturbance will be prohibited from using our service. Rabun Transit will not tolerate violence of any form on our vans. Any physical or verbal behavior that endangers our employees or clients can result in no riding privileges from 30 days to permanently and you may be prosecuted.
No alcohol use or smoking on the vans.
No weapons or firearms on the vans.
